Last October 2nd 2004 at the Montreal's Metropolis, a huge crowd were there to acclaim the next big thing to come from Scotland, "The New Scottish Gentry", as we called them, Franz Ferdinand, along with the Evaporators, a British Columbia band, and the Delays from Southampton, Southern England.
The Evaporators 'broke the ice' wth style. Nardwuar, the singer was doing bodysurfing wihile playing instruments at the same time, and made the crowd hugely awake. Then the Delays came on stage, more quetly than the Evaporators. It was a great set of pop songs in the path of the Britpop era, for the likes of Mansun or the Stone Roses. The setlist was based on their album Faded Seaside Glamour (available on Rough Trade) and they also gave us a hint on what’s new for them, as they've played some forthcoming stuff.
Franz came in a little bit later. They played for about one short hour, but how intense it was! The classics from their self-titled album were played back to back from Take Me Out to Cheatin' On You, Passing By Auf Achse and they even played some new stuff (Your Diary) and some B-sides (Shopping for Blood, Love and Destroy...). It was a pleasure for every single fan in that place that night. People danced, people sang, they've rocked the Metropolis. One word to describe that gig: AMAZING!
